John R. Legg is a Ph.D. student in History at George Mason University. His work centers on the history and memory of violence between Indigenous communities, white settlers, and the federal government in the Northern Great Plains during the nineteenth century. He serves as Affiliate Editor for the National Council on Public History’s History@Work blog and on the editorial board for H-CivWar. His work has been recognized and awarded by the Western History Association, the American Society for Ethnohistory, the American Civil War Museum in Richmond, Virginia, the Center for Peace Justice and Violence Prevention, and the Virginia Center for Civil War Studies.
